Slavery Timeline

Slavery timeline from 1619 to 1874

Did you know that in 1619, in Jamestown, Virginia, approximately 20 captive Africans were sold into slavery in the British North American colonies? This marked the beginning of the slave trade within the United States.

Students will access the slavery timeline by clicking on the picture of the chained hands to the right which will access the link on the web.

In four groups of five students each, students will be given 8 years off the slavery timeline to investigate.  Students will investigate each of their eight years using resources that are found on the website and under the Resources tab. They will then create a PowerPoint presentation that consists of at least eight slides that depicts events from each year.  I will complete the first two slides and I will combine the slides from each group into one complete presentation.  Each group will present their part of the presentation to the class. Students will be required to dress up and include props to go along with their presentation to make it interesting. Please make your slides colorful and remember to include a graphic on each slide.

Each student will also have to create a one page summary of the information that they have learned from the presentations.

Please refer to the assessment rubrics tab to view requirements for each assignment.
